Undoubtedly, digital evangelism is the best and most effective way to evangelize today. It gives ordinary people like you and me an easy opportunity to spread the gospel and help people worldwide.

As more and more people and church planters open up to the idea of digital church planting, one question looms. How can I raise money for ministry?

I've written many articles about why digital evangelism is the future of ministry. I have also coached and taught many digital evangelists how to get started and grow their online ministries, but I never discussed how to fundraise or keep their ministries sustainable.

In this post, I will share with you ten ways to raise money so you can finally fund your ministry and do what God has called you to do.

Before discussing ways to raise extra money for your ministry, here are some prerequisites you need before you start.

How to raise money for ministry - prerequisites.

The following are the general requirements; if any of the ten ways to fund your ministry requires additional needs, I will include them at the end.

Prerequisite # 1- Find a problem you want to solve.

Digital evangelism is all about solving problems. If you don't know what issues you want to solve, you won't know where to focus your efforts. You may not even know what kind of problems you should look into.

You must first identify a problem you want to address. This could be anything from poverty to homelessness, addiction, or parenting. The point is, you must find something that needs fixing.

If you need additional help finding or establishing a ministry, check out how to become a digital disciple.

Prerequisite # 2 - Register your ministry

To use any of these methods to raise money for your mission, you must first register it as a nonprofit organization. You must fill out an application form and pay the registration fee to get a 501(c)(3) status.

Acquiring a 501(c)(3) status is not required but is highly recommended because it allows you to receive tax-deductible donations. That means your donors can deduct their contributions from their taxes.

You may ask yourself, "Why should I go through all the trouble?" Well, there are two reasons:

1. You don't want to lose potential donors who think they cannot donate to a non-registered charity.

2. As a ministry, you must file annual reports with the IRS, and you can only do that with a registered organization.

If your ministry is attached to a church, then using its nonprofit status would be the best way to go about it.

If you live outside of the US, please check with your local authorities about obtaining a nonprofit or NGO status.

Prerequisite # 3 - Register a domain.

A website is one of the most critical assets every digital evangelist should invest in. Your website will be your primary contact point with potential donors and audiences. In addition, it's where you'll store all of your content, including your biography, services, videos, images, audio files, etc.

To register a domain name, visit Namecheap and purchase the most memorable domain name.

Prerequisite # 4 - Build your web presence.

Once you have registered your ministry, you will need to build your web presence which includes:

A website.

Your website is one of the essential tools that will help you raise funds. It serves as your main point of communication with your audience and potential donors.

It also helps you build credibility among your target audience.

There are several ways to build a website, but if you're just starting and you don't have a budget to pay a designer or pay for hosting, we recommend you check out Systeme.io, an all-in-one service that will help you with the following:

  • Website
  • Blog
  • Store
  • Email automation
  • Courses, and more.

And the best part is that Systeme.io is free to use for beginners, and they have great pricing if you outgrow your free account. Check it out today.

Get on social media.

Social media is the second most vital tool to help you raise money for your ministry.

We recommend you start by creating a Facebook page for your ministry. Once you have made your Facebook page, you will be able to add a link on your website so people can follow you directly from Facebook.

Next, you will need to set up an Instagram account. This is a great way to share pictures of your ministry and its activities.

Finally, you will need to set up a Twitter account. This is another excellent way to communicate with your audience and promote your ministry.

Prerequisite # 5 - Setup your donation processing services.

Now that you have built your website and social media profiles, you will need to find a way to process donations. There are many options when it comes to accepting payments online. We recommend you use PayPal or Stripe because they provide free accounts and discounted processing fees to registered nonprofits.

PayPal and Stripe allow users to create recurring donations, donate via credit card, and receive automatic donation receipts.

Note: Please check which service is available in your country.

Prerequisite # 6 - Get additional tools

In addition to the above prerequisites, here are the tools you will need.

Calendly

Calendly allows you to schedule meetings with your contacts. You can send them reminders before the meeting and even accept payment through the app.

Donorbox

Donorbox is a simple platform that allows you to collect donations without worrying about managing your database. Donors can directly contribute to your organization using their bank account or credit card.

We recommend Donorbox because it allows you to create a fundraising campaign, auto-generate tax-deductible receipts, and manage your donors.

The best thing about Donorbox is that you can set up a fundraising campaign without a website. Once you signup, you will be required to connect your account to either PayPal, Stripe, or Bank account for processing.

Now that all the prerequisites are done, let us move on to how to raise money for your ministry.

1. Raise money for ministry through paid speaking engagements.

One of the easiest ways to raise money for your ministry is to speak at events.

Many speaking engagements are available, including church events, ministry events, and conferences.

  • Church events are usually short presentations given during worship services.
  • Ministry events are typically longer presentations given at special times throughout the week.
  • Conferences are usually held over several days and include workshops, seminars, and keynote speeches.

The type of event you speak at depends on your interests and skills.

When considering a speaking engagement, be sure to ask yourself these questions:

  • Who is my audience?
  • What are their struggles and pain points?
  • What are their needs?
  • What is the solution to their problems?
  • What is the biggest takeaway or value from my speech?

Once you've answered those questions, you can narrow your search for speaking engagements. You may already be familiar with some opportunities. For example, churches often hold monthly luncheons to invite guests to share stories from their lives. These lunches are perfect opportunities for you to share your story and discuss what God is doing in your life.

Another option is to attend local events. Many churches host events throughout the year, such as Christmas parties, ministry spotlights, music concerts, Camp meetings, or gospel crusades. You might even know of a church event that needs a speaker.

Regardless of the event, you decide to speak at, prepare thoroughly. Before attending any event, write down your presentation topics and practice delivering them. Also, be prepared to answer questions from the audience. This will allow you to connect with people and show off your knowledge.

If you need help figuring out how to structure your presentation, we have an excellent article for you - How To Structure Your Digital Evangelism Presentation For Conversion.

After you've spoken at an event, don't forget to collect some emails for the purpose of follow-up. It’s always a great idea to check up on the audience after a presentation.

2. Fundraise for ministry by teaching others what you know.

If you're passionate about sharing your knowledge, there are many ways to earn money by teaching others what they need to know.

One way is to teach at church events. Church events are great places to share your knowledge because people are already interested in learning about God and his plan for them. Churches often pay a stipend or give “a thanks offering” to presenters.

Another way to earn money by teaching is through online courses.

Your online course will be based on the problems you want to solve. People pay money to teach them how to solve a problem.

Lucky for you, creating and hosting your courses will be easy and free if you sign up for Systeme.io.

3. Fund your ministry through blogging.

Blogging can be one of the most effective ways to fund your ministry. It's a low-cost investment that provides high returns.

The key to making money through blogging is to focus on quality content. Your blog posts should provide value to readers. That means it should help them accomplish something.

You can also use your blog to build relationships with other bloggers. When you do so, you can exchange links. In return, you get exposure and traffic to your site.

Once you have a good traffic flow, you can monetize your blog. There are several options available to you:

Advertising - Advertisements can be placed on your website. They usually appear when someone visits your site. The advertisements are generally targeted toward specific keywords.

Affiliate Marketing - promote products and services and earn commissions whenever someone buys a product or service after clicking on an affiliate link.

Have you heard of the term "Youtube University?"

Millions of people watch Youtube videos daily to learn new skills, improve their lives, and become better citizens.

There are several ways to make money on Youtube.

Podcasts are becoming more popular as people listen to them on mobile devices. This allows podcast listeners to take advantage of the convenience of listening to podcasts anywhere at any time.

How to make money with a church podcast.

Finding a niche audience is the first step to making money with a podcast. If you're unsure where to start, consider starting with a local community or ministry.

Next, think about how you can help this audience. For example, maybe you could interview your church leaders to find out what areas they need help with. You may also ask your target audience to give you ideas of the type of content they need.

Finally, get creative. Think about how you can monetize your podcast. Maybe you could charge for access to exclusive content and ask for a donation or sponsorships.

6. Offer coaching services.

If you're a parent, youth group leader, or volunteer coach, there's no better way to earn extra income than through offering coaching services.

Coaching is a great way to help others succeed in life. Plus, when you offer coaching services, you work directly with people who need help. This means you don't have to spend hours searching for clients. Instead, you can just show up and be ready to serve.

And since you're working directly with people, you can build relationships and become known as a trusted advisor. Many parents and churches prefer to hire a coach rather than pay for expensive seminars or workshops.

7. Write a book or eBook.

If you're looking for ways to fund your ministry, there are many ways to go about it. One way is to write a book or ebook and sell it through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).

Writing a book or ePublishing is a great fundraiser because it allows you to reach many people simultaneously. Plus, you don't need to be a writer to get started. In fact, most books are written by non-writers who just have some knowledge about a topic.

There are several benefits to writing a book or ebook. First, it gives you a platform to share your expertise with others. Second, it helps you build credibility and authority in your field. Third, it provides a steady stream of passive income. Fourth, it's a great way to help others and give back to society. And finally, it's a great hobby!

Publishing an eBook or book is just one step in the process. The other part is marketing.

You will want to start by marketing your book to your church family and close personal connections. For this reason, you need to make sure to cover topics relevant to your audience.

The next step is to use social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, YouTube, and Snapchat.

Here are some great examples of books from Christian writers who solve real-life problems with Biblical solutions.

There are many more examples of evangelist writers using this fundraising strategy to raise for their ministries, and you can too.

8. Fund your ministry by running virtual summits.

Fundraising for your ministry can be a challenge. But with a little strategy, you can create content people are willing to pay for.

One way to do this is to run virtual summits. These are online events where you invite speakers from around the world to come and speak on a specific subject.

Here is an excellent example of a church summit.

You can then record these sessions and upload them to a website so that anyone can watch them. People can even download the recordings and listen to them later.

This is a great way to raise funds for your ministry because:

  • There are no travel costs associated with attending.
  • Speakers are compensated for their time.
  • You can easily promote your event using social media.
  • You can set the date and time of your event.
  • You can choose which subjects to focus on.
  • You can customize your event based on what your audience wants.
  • You can also charge a small fee to those who register early.
  • You can host multiple events throughout the year.

We have an excellent article for you if you need more information about virtual summits.

To build an effective online store, you'll first need to determine exactly what products you want to sell. Then, you'll need to find a reliable supplier. Finally, you'll need to market your product effectively.

The key to a successful online ministry store is to produce great valuable content for your audience first. People support people they like. So, if you can provide value to your audience, they will likely buy from you.

Here are some ideas of items you can sell:

  • T-shirts
  • Bags
  • Pens
  • Mugs
  • Keychains
  • And much more…

Starting an online store is relatively easy; you can create one with zero dollars. For example, you can start selling t-shirts, mags, and bags without owning any printers or inventory.

Here is what you do if you already have some great product ideas and want to start on an online store.

10. Ask for donations

Another way to raise money for a ministry is by asking for donations. Remember to provide value to your audience because people give to people they know, love, and trust.
